Toddlers at Disney
Disney
World is designed for families and geared for children of all ages. I often get
the question asking if a baby or toddler will have anything to do. We took our
son when he was 8 months old. He loved
it!!! Besides all the character meets and variety of visual stimulates he was
also able to go on a lot of rides. Most the time he was asleep while we got on
the rides and woke up shortly after we started moving. Disney will allow you to
hold the toddlers and we were even able to keep him in our baby carrier on some
of the rides, we used a soft structured carrier.
The few
challenges with taking a baby or toddler are:
Schedules. Feeding and naps can take a lot
of time. We were able to wear him when he was sleeping and we took breaks when
he was ready to eat.
Waiting. The second hardest part of taking
a baby or toddler is waiting in lines. They just don’t understand at that age.
Walking around the park keeps them happy and distracted. Some lines have interactions, but I do
suggest thinking of little games to play or even having one or two of the BabyFirst
apps on your phone.
Heat. The heat will get to anyone,
babies and toddlers are more sensitive. Being in a carrier or stroller traps
the heat. Rule of thumb, if you are uncomfortable so is your child. Do not
cover baby with a blanket to block the sun.
This will trap heat and pose a heat stroke risk. Use the sun visor on
your stroller or a wide brim hat while babe is in a carrier. I also advise to bring a battery powered fan
that clips onto your stroller. Offer water often, every time you sip see if
they will sip. For babies, consult with
your pediatrician before your trip so they can advise you the best way to keep
your baby hydrated. Breastfeeding mothers need to make sure they stay hydrated,
drink extra water! Try to go indoors for a show, or meal, during the hottest
part of the day. Use cooling towels on
yourself and older children, do not use them on babies.
These few
tips should help make for a more comfortable and fun vacation.
